Jeff McKay is an Investment Advisor at Manulife Wealth Inc. specializing in a host of financial services including estate and retirement planning, and business succession strategies. He has acted as an advocate and advisor for professionals and corporations for over 30 years. Prior to becoming an Investment Advisor a dozen years ago, Jeff practiced commercial litigation in downtown Toronto and appeared in every level of court in the province including the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Jeff is a graduate of the University of Toronto Law School and holds an undergraduate degree from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario in politics and economics. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990. Although he is no longer a practicing barrister, Jeff remains an active member of the Toronto legal community.
Jeff prides himself on developing full service relationships with his clients, establishing a thorough wealth management plan combined with a disciplined approach toward investment decisions. Jeff also hosts a series of internal seminars and workshops for clients and friends on a wide range of investment and economic topics. Outside the office Jeff is an avid downhill skier and amateur astronomer. An active university alumnus, he is the class representative for both his undergraduate and law school classes at Queen's and U of T. Jeff and his wife Catherine of 25 years live in North Toronto with their Goldendoodle dog "Chessy." Their two sons are proudly following the family tradition studying at Queen's University.

STEP 1: Establishing and defining the client-advisor relationship
Jeff will explain or document the services to be provided and defines his responsibilities along with the responsibilities of the client. Together, they should agree on how decisions will be made.
STEP 2: Gathering client data and determining goals and expectations
Jeff asks about the client's financial situation, personal and financial goals and attitude about risk. He gathers all necessary documents at this stage before giving advice.
STEP 3: Analyzing and evaluating the client's financial status
Jeff analyzes client information to assess his or her current situation to determine what must be done to achieve the client's goals. Depending on the services requested, this assessment could include analyzing the client's assets, liabilities and cash flow, current insurance coverage, investments or tax strategies.
STEP 4: Developing and presenting the financial strategy recommendations and/or alternatives
Jeff offers recommendations that address the client's goals, based on the information the client provided. He reviews the recommendations with the client to allow the client to make informed decisions. Jeff then listens to client concerns and revises recommendations as appropriate.
STEP 5: Implementing the financial strategy recommendations
Together they will agree on how recommendations will be carried out. Jeff may carry out the recommendations for the client or serve as a "coach", coordinating the process with the client and other professionals such as lawyers and accountants.
STEP 6: Monitoring the financial strategy recommendations
Together, they monitor the client's progress toward goals. Jeff will report to the client periodically to review the situation and adjust recommendations as needed.
